Biography
So, a quick introduction, Bjork is said to be a fan of Micachu and can probably indentify with another artist brave enough to take pop music into entirely uncharted territory. Micachu is largely inspired by Harry Partch who famously used an... Read More

Micachu and The Shapes confirm July US Tour Dates! 28 May 2009
Micachu & The Shapes were briefly in the States this past March and totally rocked SXSW:
"Mica Levi, who often plays a miniature guitar she bought for 10 pounds, writes songs
that are terse, choppy, swinging and startling ... a peculiarly tuned mini-guitar Ms. Levi
bought for 10 pounds, and enough cowbells so that Raisa Khan, the keyboardist, and
Marc Pell, the drummer, can play the kind of ping-ponging call-and-response patterns
that are called hocketing in medieval music. Calliope tones, synthesizer buzzes and
blunt lyrics in songs with titles like "Guts" were also part of the compositions.
The music is jagged and abrasive but proudly feisty." NY Times
"Her ramshackle songlets bounce along with childlike abandon, shambling, dissonant
bedroom indie shot through with DIY electronic flourishes. ...Micachu is plenty charming
and full of interesting sonic
ideas." Pitchfork
"What starts as a clawing, atonal clamber eventually clarifies itself over several songs as
the brilliantly sustained and jarringly inventive MO of what is sure to be one of '09s sharpest
songwriting talents." Boston Phoenix
Weren't able to catch them? Well, you will be pleased to know that the trio (led by 22 year-old Mica Levi) have confirmed July US Tour Dates to celebrate their recent release Jewellery! They'll be making a couple notable festival appearances along the way, performing at this year's Siren Music Festival in New York's Coney Island, and at the Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle!
More praise for Jewellery which is out now on Rough Trade.
"I will rest my case for 2009's best album, in my opinion. I listen to a great deal of music, and
['Jewellery'} is by far the best album I have heard this year. It's going to take quite an effort from
another band and great deal of humility for me to back down from this position. Mica Levi makes
it too easy for me, though, and I am privileged to partake in her astounding artistic masterpiece."
Phoenix New Times
"...the freshest thing to come along so far in 2009." Pitchfork
