RATATAT to release iTunes exclusive single TOUR Starts 9/7! 01 Sep 2010

RATATAT are set to release the track "Drugs" on 9/14 as an exclusive single for iTunes.  This single version will feature a remix of "Drugs" by Nguzu Nguzu as the b-side, which is not available elsewhere.  The "Drugs" iTunes release will coincide with the duo's first proper U.S. tour in support of LP4, their latest full-length which came out earlier this Summer on XL Recordings.  The band are sensational live, and have electrified 6,000+ audiences all over the world!  These dates, including an LA stop at Club Nokia, and closing with not one but TWO nights headlining Terminal 5 in NYC will be very special indeed.

A video for "Drugs" will be available for sale on iTunes as well on 9/6.  It can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhrteSZXFzM

LP4 is the 4th studio album from Ratatat (aka Evan Mast and Mike Stroud), and was primarily recorded at Old Soul Studios, in upstate New York, though this time around, Ratatat opted to work with a full string section at Glassworks Studios in Manhattan.  LP4 also features spoken word interludes from films by Werner Herzog and Terence Mallick.

Praise for LP4

“On LP4 it’s clear that big licks can still be cool — as long as they’re served over scratchy samples, chest-rattling beats, and a United Nations of instruments, from Iranian drums to Japanese strings….(LP4) is an album that demands to be pumped through massive speakers.” - Wired Magazine

"LP4, while not sacrificing the duo’s trusted formula, is quite obviously protean to the hilt, with aural particulars interlocking with unprecedented intricacy." - PopMatters (9/10)

“the addition of a string section and hand-drums to the group's arsenal of clashing sounds gives the new release a more exotic vibe” - Billboard

"It is instrumental rock music that is experimental, emotional, colorful, and engaging, while skillfully blurring many musical boundaries." - Delusions Of Adequacy

The return of Efterklang - US tour starts on 9/7! 01 Sep 2010

We are so excited that our friends in Efterklang are coming back to the US for a tour! Their shows are heartwarming and we highly recommend seeing one (or more!)

Dylan LeBlanc to set out on the IF TIME WAS FOR WASTING INSTORE TOUR 23 Aug 2010

We're excited to announce that Dylan LeBlanc will be hitting the road in early September for what has been dubbed the "If Time Was For Wasting Instore Tour" which will have him performing at select record stores in the South!

His incredible debut album Pauper's Field is out this week on Rough Trade.

A mere 20 years old, Dylan is a native of Shreveport, LA and now splits his time between there and Nashville. He started playing guitar at age 7, and writing songs just a few years later. The songs on this debut are beautifully nurtured, gently astonishing, stop-you-in-your-tracks reveries - gilded with strings, smokey organ lines, and keening pedal steel.

Be sure to take a moment and watch this session video of Dylan performing a haunting rendition of his song "Emma Hartley" here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHlHAg_9Z7U

"This 19-year-old Louisiana boy sang with a world-weary tone that belied his young age. Blending a little of Jim James' reverb-drenched croon with Neil Young's raspy, high registers, recent Rough Trade signing LeBlanc sings with an easygoing assurednes"
-SPIN.COM

"He just might be the next brooding Townes Van Zandt among us." - AMERICAN SONGWRITER

HOLY FUCK CONFIRM EXTENSIVE FALL TOUR! 20 Aug 2010

Toronto's Holy Fuck resurfaced as a 4-piece earlier this year with the announcement of their excellent new album Latin (out now on Young Turks) and have kept busy ever since!

The group, now made up of Brian Borcherdt, Graham Walsh, Matt Schulz, and Matt McQuaid toured earlier this Summer, and found time to play an electrifying headlining set at this year's Siren Music Festival in New York's Coney Island.

Most recently, their song "Latin America" was featured in the new Michael Cera film, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World.

An MP3 is available for the song here: http://www.beggarsgroupusa.com/mp3/HolyFuck_LatinAmerica.mp3

...and the music video for "Latin America" directed by Yoonha Park is available here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fd5gVwbRlvk

Now we're excited to confirm that the quartet plan to hit the road some more!  They'll be kicking things off on September 8th in Louisville, KY with plans to continue on hitting many stops in the U.S. and Canada through the end of October!

SEE ALL DATES BELOW.

Praise for Holy Fuck and Latin:

"The Toronto-based collective goes all out on its third album, "Latin," which features lead members Brian Borcherdt and Graham Walsh's spacey keyboards and effects supplemented by the powerful live drums and bass of {Matt Schulz and Matt McQuaid}."
Billboard

"Holy Fuck has spent the last six years developing a sublime brand of post-post-rock that owes as much to classic Krautrock and guitar nerdery as it does minimal techno." XLR8R

STORNOWAY confirm Dec 2nd Bowery Ballroom show! 10 Aug 2010

Today marks the full US release of Beachomber's Windowsill, the debut album from Oxford's Stornoway.

Beachomber's Windowsill was previously released in the UK and debuted on their charts at #14.  The NME called it "beautifully rendered and melodically magnificent" and Q Magazine have called the band, "Brit-folk's new great hope."

Stornoway features Brian Briggs (guitar, vox), Jonathan Ouin (keys, strings) and brothers Ollie and Rob Steadman on bass and drums respectively.  Live, the core four-piece are bolstered by the addition of Brian's brother Adam Briggs on brass and Rahul Satija playing violin.  The 6 of them made a brief trip to the States to play 3 very special NYC shows in early July - their first ever US dates!

Now, New Yorkers who missed seeing them play can rejoice - the band are now confirmed to come back and perform at New York's Bowery Ballroom on December 2nd!

Stay tuned, as more US tour dates are on the horizon!

""Fuel Up", a lovely meditation on the passage of time viewed through the lens of a series of road trips, is like Briggs' doctoral thesis on Ray Davies Melancholy. "Zorbing" and "I Saw You Blink" breeze by with the insouciance of Boy With the Arab Strap-era Belle and Sebastian..."
Pitchfork

"Our new favourite band" The Guardian
"The first great album of the summer" The Times
"Truly billows the heart" The Telegraph

BLONDE REDHEAD on tour with PANTHA DU PRINCE! 20 Jul 2010

BLONDE REDHEAD ANNOUNCE FALL TOUR
+ presale password
+ upgrade option

We are excited to announce a BLONDE REDHEAD tour in support of their upcoming album Penny Sparkle (9/14, 4AD). The tour begins in mid-October in Philadelphia, PA and will continue through to early December. The most recent extensive Blonde Redhead tour was three years ago, and their live shows are always mind-blowing. Penny Sparkle is the band’s third album for 4AD and marks another sonic twist in their already adventurous canon. It was made over the last year with the band journeying between New York and Stockholm to work with production duo Van Rivers and The Subliminal Kid (Fever Ray, Massive Attack).

Opening the first half of the tour will be renowned German electronic musician and producer Pantha Du Prince. His most recent album, Black Noise, was released by Rough Trade records earlier this year to rave reviews. Pantha Du Prince fuses house, techno, shoegazy electronica and psychedelic electro-acoustic soundscapes into music that is at once both beautiful and bewitching.

There will be a pre-sale for many of the shows, and please see the link for more details. The pre-sale password is “Sparkle” and the sales will launch 48 hours prior to a given city’s general on-sale date.

The upgrade option is available once the consumer reaches the shipping page.

GOTAN PROJECT - fall tour dates! 09 Jul 2010

GOTAN PROJECT LIVE!

9/29            Montreal, QUE                       Metropolis
9/30            New York, NY                        Terminal 5
10/2            Los Angeles, CA                    Club Nokia LA Live
10/3            San Francisco, CA                 Warfield Theatre

An evening with The Gotan Project is a very special night indeed. They don’t come to the US very often (the last tour was in 2006), but when they do, the shows are truly magical.  The band really pulls out all the stops when they play live, and although they never imagined themselves as a touring outfit when they first began blending programmed beats with traditional tango music back in the late '90s, they have gone on to tour the world countless times, playing over 400 concerts in support of their three studio albums. The band have played everywhere from Russia to Australia.

For the live show in support of their latest album, Tango 3.0, Gotan Project have replaced their light suits with dark pinstripes, the grand piano has changed from white to black, and the mood of the show has transformed with it. The male members of the band are all dressed in sharply tailored 3-piece suits, cut to a design that harks back to the 1930's. The three founding members of Gotan Project, Philippe Cohen-Solal, Eduardo Makaroff and Christoph H Müller are identified by the dark fedoras, which complete their outfit.

The stage itself is drenched in black, with 5 bass drums arranged across the front of the stage, the skin of each drum featuring one of the nude character letters that make up the word G O T A N from the cover of Tango 3.0. The beautiful and engrossing visuals, created by longtime collaborator Prisca Lobjoy, are projected onto a transparent chain mail screen, lending a unique texture to the images and allowing the subtle lighting behind the screen to shine through.

Whereas Philippe and Christoph previously performed from a platform at the back of the stage, they now flank either side of the stage, bringing more emphasis to the musicians who take up centre stage. Indeed, the new live show feels more reliant than ever on live instrumentation, despite the ever-present use of Gotan's trademark production, samples and DJ technique.

In fact, the Western influence that has been ever more present in Gotan's sound. “De Hombre A Hombre” is represented by Philippe, who steps out from behind his decks and effects for the first time to play the electric guitar. The bandoneon is expertly handled as ever by Facundo Torres, and the piano by Lalo Zanelli. The strings however have been replaced by the impressive Ananta Roosens who switches effortlessly between violin and brass.

Last but not least, the vocals come courtesy of Claudia Pannone, an extremely capable replacement for Cristina Vilallonga. Claudia's vocal style is loaded with a melancholy and vulnerability that perfectly complements the more sinister tone that underlies Gotan Projects latest shows. Tango 3.0 is brought to life brilliantly and vividly while the live favorites from Lunatico and La Revancha Del Tango sound just as relevant as they did when Gotan Project first began touring.

This video, for Tango 3.0's "El Mensajero" was recorded live on their current tour.
