World AIDS Day / Dark Was The Night announcement 01 Dec 2008


What a fitting day to announce the complete list of artists involved with our upcoming album DARK WAS THE NIGHT - the February 17th 4AD release that will benefit the Red Hot Organization. It's World AIDS Day, and in honor of that, we bring you the exciting news.

On the occasion of WORLD AIDS DAY today, December 1st, we are very pleased to announce the official release date, complete list of participating artists and cover art for the upcoming 4AD release DARK WAS THE NIGHT.

Dark Was The Night
will be released on February 17th, 2009. Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National produced the album, and John Carlin, the founder of the Red Hot Organization was the executive producer. A total of 32 exclusive tracks have been recorded for the compilation. It will be available as a double cd/triple vinyl/download and will benefit the Red Hot Organization - an international charity dedicated to raising funds and awareness for HIV and AIDS. Red Hot was founded on the premise that even without a cure, AIDS remains a preventable disease – and music is a great vehicle to raise money and awareness for it.  This is the 20th year of Red Hot, and this is the 20th release!

Department Of Eagles to play Chicago festival in January 26 Nov 2008

Department of Eagles will play The Tomorrow Never Knows Festival 2009 at Schubas Tavern on Thursday, January 15th.

To date they've performed on Conan and played 2 proper NYC shows (The Bell House and Town Hall

for Revenge of the Bookeaters) so this show marks their very first performance outside of NYC, HIP HIP HOORAY!

Check out this unauthorized video we found on youtube of Vampire Weekend's performance on Conan from Friday. They had the same string section from SNL and they played "The Kids Don't Stand A Chance".

 

El Guincho's upcoming NYC dates 24 Nov 2008

El Guincho is currently on the West Coast in the midst of his long awaited US tour!


He'll be fitting in two NYC appearances, first a DJ set at Le Poisson Rouge
(w Prefuse 73 DJing as well) on sick-of-your-fam-turkey-stuffed Saturday 11/29, before
going to Philly, and then coming BACK to NYC for a proper show, once again at Le Poisson Rouge

El Guincho Is On American Soil 20 Nov 2008


It is November 20 and that means El Guincho's tour kicks off tonight!  Very exciting to finally have him over here again - and this time he actually has an album in-stores!

Vampire Weekend release new single today, play CONAN on Friday! 18 Nov 2008

VAMPIRE WEEKEND are excited to release their newest single “The Kids Don’t Stand A Chance”. It will be available digitally on November 18th, on 7” white vinyl December 9th,  and features the album version along with a remix by Chromeo.

Their self-titled debut album was released on January 29th, 2008 to worldwide critical acclaim, including magazine covers, performances on Saturday Night Live, The Late Show With David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live and much much more.

They recently performed “The Kids Don’t Stand A Chance” with Chromeo at the MTVU Woodie Awards show in one of the most talked about collaborations of the night.

They will be also be performing the song with a string quartet on Friday November 21st on Late Night With Conan O’Brien.
