Love (Omnibus Edition) by The Cult
Released: Sep 22 2009
For nearly 25 years Love has been a consistent seller (over one million copies in Europe alone), endorsing it's classic status in The Cult's repertoire. The Omnibus Editioin is presented as a limited edition box set with the CD's in Japanese-style paper sleeves, reproducing the original vinyl cover art, accompanied by a 48 page book. Love had been expanded into a 4 disc set - apart from the re-mastered original album ith box also includes the singles, the demos and a live recording from 1985.

great set -

First off, I initially balked when I saw Amazon's price for this set. I already had the album and the "Rare Cult" box so I couldn't justify spending $40 for a CD of demos and a live CD. When I later saw that this set was going for under $26 from Beggars direct I decided to give it a shot. In short, this is the best CD I've purchased in a number of years. First off, the sonics on the main album are a huge improvement over previous pressings. In addition to the overall sound quality, this version also corrects a "click" at 2:10 on the track "Revolution" which was present on both the 1985 sire CD as well as the 2000 remaster.
The music itself has been reviewed time and time again. Since the reissue, I've read a number of recent reviews which praise Love because it represents the link between the Dreamtime style and the Electric ("arena rock") style. While I do agree with that assessment, I also believe that Love deserves praise for what it is - outside of the context of the Cult's previous and subsequent styles. This is, without question, a classic album, which is a lost art form these days. There are no throwaway songs on the album and it stands as a complete work.
For diehard fans, the extras offer a lot to get excited about. The demo CD offers an insight into the development of the songs, many of which had been unavailable until now. The Live CD sounds much better than I would have expected a live CD from 1985 to sound. It will also make its way into regular rotation.
Finally, the packaging is phenomenal. Beggars definitely put a lot of thought into this set and at this price, it's a treat for hardcore fans. Here's hoping that the rest of the Cult's catalog get similar treatment in the very near future.

Wow -

The cd's are beautiful-the demos are so cool. and the live cd is hypnotizing.
I would have paid way more for such a great set-then there are the downloads-YES! and the book with photos that I haven't seen before and I have been following the cult since '86. What a great collection.

"love all around when the music is loud..." -

I wasn't sure what to expect with the Cult's newest re-release of
Love on CD (there's the original CD, the remaster, and now this plus
the "expanded" edition).
I decided to buy it anyway, mostly for the booklet promised in the
advertising, and Beggars had it cheaper than anywhere else brand-new. I really was not expecting such a great package for such a small price-- there are 4 CDs total (the Love album, the 4 singles from the album with b-sides, demos, plus a live CD with Love & Dreamtime songs), plus a 48-page book filled with photos and quotes. The packaging itself is wonderful-- this is not a hasty slap-and-paste job.
As for the album itself, it is definitely a classic, so you owe it to yourself to give it a listen.

The ultimate package--and it does indeed contain previously unreleased material. What an album this was--in the right place and in the right time.
